1 Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, 2 “This month is the beginning of months for you; it shall be the first month of your year.
The first month of your year. The Lord’s redemption institutes a new beginning, the true beginning of our life. Thus we reckon not by secular months and seasons, but by sacred months and seasons, which are more governing. This month is the head month. Christ is our head, our forerunner, our leader and our life.
13 The blood on the houses where you are staying will distinguish them; when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No plague will fall on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
When I see the blood, Here we are reminded that “For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7). Indeed the blood of Christ will make known the perfection of his love for God and the perfection of his life offered up on our behalf. What is hidden in Christ, what is hidden that is from man, the splendor of his life, is made manifest at the cross.
Thus blood is both the sign and reality in Christ, signifying his perfection, but indeed, it is his very life offered up for us. The life is in the blood (Lev. 17:11).
